"The red wheelbarrow"

We can look at this short but sweet poem in many different viewpoints. What was Williams trying to express through this wheelbarrow? We can think of a wheel barrow as a simple yet essential object and yet "so much depends upon" this simple object. In theory one could go on a tangent about how simple yet essential things in life could be more appreciated. I know in class we discussed how this wheelbarrow becomes a decorative and artistic object but, i'm partial to this viewpoint initially. How did this poem become so renowned anyway? Because of its simple nature there is a lot of room for interpretation. Whats your interpretation?????

  1. Significance of "Simple but essential things..." Yes. Franchesca Lamarre's blog looks at this issue, as well; see my comments on her and others' blogs...

Your closing question is a nice touch, since it invites discussion. Perhaps try, in future blogs, a question foucsed on a particular element of the poem--an image, something troubling or ambiguous, etc.

  2. A poem so simple could mean so many thing. It take something so ordinary as a wheelbarrow to make life to be precise to use all.
